Help / Connect Jira
Connect Jira
GetDone brings your Jira issues onto your board and lets you move them between Jira’s own statuses. It works with Jira Cloud (sites that end in .atlassian.net). Jira Server and Data Center are not supported.
Who can do this: workspace admins connect Jira, and everyone in that workspace then sees the imported issues. If you want them only for yourself, connect Jira in your personal workspace.
What you need
- Your Jira address, like
yourteam.atlassian.net. Open Jira in your browser and copy the part of the address bar before the first/. You can paste the whole address; GetDone keeps the site part. - Your Atlassian email, the one you sign in to Jira with.
- An API token, created in your Atlassian account (below).
Create an API token
- Go to id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens and sign in.
- Choose Create API token.
- Give it a name you will recognise, such as “GetDone”, and pick an expiry date.
- Choose Create, then Copy the token. Atlassian shows it only once.
The token acts as you: GetDone can see and change only what your Jira account can. You can revoke it on the same page at any time, which immediately stops GetDone.
If the token page is missing or creation is blocked, your company may restrict API tokens. Ask your Jira administrator to allow them.
Connect it
- In GetDone open Connect (on the website it is in the menu; in the iPhone app it is Settings, Connect tools).
- Enter the address, your email and the token. Optionally add a filter (below).
- Choose Connect and sync. GetDone checks the details, stores the token encrypted, and imports your issues.
Choose what is imported
By default you get the issues assigned to you that are unresolved, plus ones you resolved in the last 14 days (up to 500). To change that, enter a filter in JQL, Jira’s search language, when connecting. Examples:
assignee = currentUser() AND resolution = Unresolved
project = WEB AND assignee = currentUser() AND statusCategory != Done
labels = mobile AND resolution = Unresolved ORDER BY updated DESC Test a filter first in Jira’s search (Filters, Advanced issue search) so you know it returns what you expect.
Where imported issues go
- One project per Jira project (default): issues from project
WEBare filed in a GetDone project named after it, created for you. - One “Jira” project for everything.
You can switch any time on the Connect page, and tick “also move issues I’ve already imported” to re-file them. Issues you move by hand are left where you put them.
What syncs, and which way
| Thing | Direction |
|---|---|
| Title, description, priority, due date | Jira to GetDone. Read-only in GetDone: edit them in Jira. |
| Status | Both ways. In GetDone, open the task and pick from the statuses Jira allows. |
| Comments and full description | Read live from Jira each time you open the task. Not stored. |
GetDone syncs automatically about every 15 minutes. Admins can press Sync now.
Fix common problems
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Jira rejected those credentials” | Check the email is the one you sign in to Jira with, and create a fresh token. Tokens expire and are shown only once, so copy the whole thing. |
| “Could not find that Jira site” | Check the spelling. It must be a Jira Cloud address ending in .atlassian.net. |
| “Could not reach Jira” | Jira may be down, or a company network rule is blocking it. Try again later. |
| Status change “reverted” | Jira refused it, often because that move needs extra fields. Make the change in Jira once, or choose another status. |
| An issue is missing | It may not match your filter, or it was not assigned to you. Check the filter, then press Sync now. |
| An issue I deleted came back | It will not. Deleting a task in GetDone hides that issue from future imports. |
Disconnect
On the Connect page choose Disconnect. This deletes the stored token and stops syncing. Tasks already imported stay until you delete them. To be sure nothing can reach Jira, also revoke the token at id.atlassian.com.
